Kishangarh, a pristine picnic spot in the Ajmer district of state of Rajasthan in India, was acclaimed as the royal capital of the princely state of British, which was ruled by Rathores of Rajputana. This stunning place with much great history in art, crafts and culture is located about 15 km away from Ajmer. The state was established by the Rajput King Kishan Singh of Rathore dynasty. A Navgrah temple located at the heart of the city attracts many devotees. It is believed that the sacred river Saraswathy flows under this desert region of Kishangarh. The main attraction of Kishangarh is the miniature paintings of this ancient cultural state. These miniature arts depict mostly the love life and romance of Radha and Krishna described in Hindu mythologies and epics. It is believed that the famous artist Nihal Chand led the painting activities here during the 18th century. The paintings are breathtakingly attractive, painted on the background of pristine environment and lusting green landscapes. The Bani Thani paintings of the Kishangarh attract the art lovers to this princely place.

HistoryEdit

Kishangarh was established by the Kishan Singh in 1609 AD who was a Jodhpur prince. Prithvi Singh in 1840 was the 15th Maharaja of Kishangarh. After him his son Sardul Singh became the Maharaja in 1879. Maharaja Madan Singh at the age of sixteen ascended the throne and faced devastating drought by irrigation from tanks and wells. He cuts the expenditure on marraiges.

By Air : The nearest railhead to Kishangarh is at Ajmer which is located at a distance of 27 km from Kishangarh. Ajmer railhead lies on the Delhi-Jaipur-Marwar-Ahmedabad-Mumbai line and is well connected to major cities of the country.

By Train : The nearest airport to Kishangarh is Jaipur (135 km) and the taxi fare is around Rs 3000. Other airport is at Jodhpur that is well-connected to the major parts of the country.

By BUS : Rajasthan State buses ply from Jaipur, Nagaur, Haridwar, Agra, Bikaner, Chittorgarh, Bharatpur, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur to Kishangarh. The tariff per seat lies between Rs 100 and Rs 300. The frequency of the buses is every one to three hours.

By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
