Kentucky Lake may be a major passable reservoir on the Tennessee River in Kentucky and Tennessee. Created in 1944 by the Tennessee natural depression Authority’s impoundment of the Tennessee River by Kentucky Dam, the 160,309-acre (649 km2) lake is that the largest reservoir by area within the us east of the Mississippi River (though not the biggest by volume; Lake Cumberland holds that distinction).
