Kaziranga National Park is located in the state of Assam and it has been declared as a world heritage site. The park is a popular place and many tourists can be seen here during the peak tourist seasons. The park is home to the one horned rhino and two thirds of the world’s populations of rhinos are located in the Kaziranga Park. Kaziranga has achieved relatively good amount of success in conservation of wildlife and one can see many species of animals and birds in the park. Some of the animals that can be spotted here are swamp deer, elephants, wild buffalos, Chinese pangolins, Bengal foxes, gibbons, civets, sloth bears, leopards and flying squirrels amongst either. The park is also home to the Indian tiger and it is a tiger reserve.Some of the birds that are present in the park are imperial eagles, fish eagles, herons, storks, pelicans and hornbills. One can opt for safari rides in the park in either jeeps or SUVs and this is the best way to get around the park. Elephant rides can be arranged and they have to be booked in advance as they are popular. There is a wide variety of flora that is available in the sanctuary as well. The wildlife sanctuary experiences three main seasons and they are summer, monsoon and winter season. Summers are hot and temperatures can rise rapidly during the peak season. Those who visit the town during this time have to be prepared for extreme conditions.

How to ReachEdit

By Air : The closest airport is located in the town of Tezpur. There are scheduled flights from places such as Kolkata to Tezpur. Tezpur is located at a distance of around 60 kilometers from the park. Taxis are available extensively and they charge Rs 7 per kilometer for the trip.

By Train : The closest major railhead is located at Guwahati. Trains are a comfortable mode of transport and they are inexpensive as well. Trains are popular and one has to book tickets at least two months in advance. Tickets from Delhi to Guwahati cost around Rs 500 for a second class berth. Taxis from the station cost between Rs 7 and Rs 12 per kilometer.

By BUS : Government buses are available frequently from places such as Guwahati and Tezpur. Ticket prices from Guwahati cost between Rs 150 and 200. Buses may not be comfortable and this mode of transport is used extensively by locals.

By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
