Kaunas is the second largest city and the former capital of Lithuania, has grown as the country’s industrial powerhouse. Located at the confluence of the Neris, and the Nemunas Rivers, this city is renowned for the Kaunas Lagoon, which is an important water body in the country. Also known as the cultural city of the country, it boasts over 40 excellent museums, accompanied by an Old Town, displaying ancient Gothic, Renaissance, and baroque architecture.
Monasteries, castles, cathedrals and forts are other popular attractions of this city. The Devil’s Museum in this city is a place worth visiting. It displays about three thousand carving and sculptures of devils, collected from all over the World. A favorite place for the Botanists, the Kaunas Botanical Garden, has 0.25 hectares of experimental greenhouses and 517 square meters of conservatories. The other famous attractions here are the fortress of Kaunas and the beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral.
