Kapaa suggests that solid in Hawaiian. The city is found within the ancient district of Puna, within the Kapaa ahupuaa or county. Ahupuaa were pie formed wedges of land that stretched from mountain to ocean permitting its inhabitants the total vary of landscapes and climates. The famed “Sleeping Giant” or Nounou Mountain overlooks the city. Agriculture was an enormous trade throughout most of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Sugar cane was big along side the most important pineapple fields on Kauai Island. A pineapple factory was placed wherever the Pono Kai condominiums currently stand.
