Kanha’s sal and bamboo forests, rolling grasslands and meandering streams stretch over 940 sq km in dramatic natural splendour which form the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve created in 1974 under Project Tiger. This was the park that the Central Indian Barasingha, also known as the hardground barasingha, was brought back from the virtual edge of extinction. By a special statute in 1955, Kanha National Park came into being. Since then, a series of stringent conservation programmes for the protection of the park’s flora and fauna has given Kanha its deserved reputation for being one of the finest and best administered National Parks in Asia, an irresistible attraction for all wildlife lovers and a true haven for its animal and avian population.

Kanha National Park attained the status of a National Park in 1955. The park forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh that was created in 1974 under Project Tiger. During the initial phase, the park comprised an area of 253 sq. km. Later, the Halon valley came to be integrated into the park, resulting in the the total area increasing to 940 sq. Kms.

Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
Bus : There are daily bus services from Kanha to Jabalpur (169 km), Bilaspur (305 km) and Nagpur (286 km). Many private bus agencies provide tourist bus services from Kanha to other important cities.
Train : There is no Railway Station in Kanna. nearest railway stations is Jabalpur, which is 169 kilometer away from Kanha. Jabalpur is a major railway station connecting to all railheads in India. Taxis charges about Rs 3,000 from Jabalpur to Kanha.
Air : There is no airport in Kanha National Park. Jabalpur is the closest airport with less connectivity of flights (169 km). Jabalpur to Kanha cost about Rs 3,000 by Taxi.
Others : Travel inside the park is on jeeps. Jeeps might not be available at the last minute. So booking jeeps in advance online is sugested.
