John Day may be a town settled concerning one mile (1.6 km) north of canon town in Grant County, Oregon, at the intersection of U.S. Routes twenty six and 395. town was named for the near John Day watercourse, that had been named for a Virginian member of the 1811 Astor Expedition, John Day. town was incorporated in 1901. As of the 2010 census, town had a complete population of one,744, creating it the most important town within the county. As of the census of 2000, there have been 1821 individuals, 734 households, and 472 families residing within the town. The population density was 969.5 individuals per square measure (374.0/km²). there have been 846 housing units at a median density of 450.4 per square measure (173.7/km²).
