John Day could be a town settled regarding one mile (1.6 km) north of ravine town in Grant County, Oregon, at the intersection of U.S. Routes twenty six and 395. the town was named for the close John Day stream, that had been named for a American member of the 1811 Astor Expedition, John Day. the town was incorporated in 1901. As of the 2010 census, the town had a complete population of one,744, creating it the biggest town within the county. As of the census of 2000, there have been 1821 individuals, 734 households, and 472 families residing within the town. The population density was 969.5 individuals per area unit (374.0/km²). there have been 846 housing units at a median density of 450.4 per area unit (173.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was ninety six.92% White, 1.15% Native yankee, 0.38% Asian, 0.16% Pacific island-dweller, third African yankee, 0.55% from alternative races, and 0.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.42% of the population.
