John Brown’s Fort was the building inbuilt 1848 that was originally made to be used as a guard and truck house for the federal Harpers Ferry Armory in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, then a vicinity of Virginia. Associate in Nursing 1848 military report represented the building as “An engine and guard-house thirty five x twenty four feet (7.3 m), one story brick, coated with slate, and having copper gutters and down spouts…” The building achieved ill fame throughout John Brown’s Raid on the Harpers Ferry Armory in 1859.
After Brown’s raid, the hearth engine house became referred to as “John Brown’s Fort” and attracted traveler attention. In 1891, the building was oversubscribed to a vendee World Health Organization needed to use it as Associate in Nursing attraction near the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The building solely had eleven guests and was demolished and left on a building site when the exhibition. In 1894, a movement was spearheaded by Washington D.C. Journalist Kate Field to preserve the building and move it back to Harper’s Ferry.
Alexander and mother root vegetable deeded five acres (20,000 m square) of their Harpers Ferry farm for one dollar ($1.00) as a relocation web site, and also the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad provided free shipping. Reconstruction of John Brown’s Fort on the root vegetable farm was completed by Gregorian calendar month 1895, including the gates that enclosed the fort. These gates were designed by Washington. The root vegetable Farm was established Sep one, 1869, the parkland Service purchased the farm through TPL, December 31, 2002.
