Situated within a vast valley surrounded by mountains, Jinotega City is an excellent scenic tourist destination in the north central regions of Nicaragua. These areas located near the Apanas Lake produce almost 80 percent of the national coffee production. A vast bowl of agricultural landscape locally known as the ‘City of the Mists’, Jinotega is witness to magnificent whisks of clouds continuously floating overhead. Displaying a relatively pleasant climate due to its high elevation, however, the best time to visit Jinotega is December through February at the height of the coffee-season.
Showcasing a small town feel with friendly people, some of the touristic activities visitors can indulge in Jinotega include hiking, trailing and swimming. Largely forgotten by the outside World, Jinotega men love to parade and show-off their horses. Direct bus services to Jinotega are available from many Nicaraguan towns like Matagalpa, Esteli and Managua alongside taxi services which generally charge a little more.
