Jhalawar is a city that is located in the Jhalawar district of the state of Rajasthan. The city was part of the princely state of Jhalawar. The place used to be known as Brijnagar. There are many old buildings and other sites that can be visited in the area. The city was founded near a lake and this is one of the prime attractions of the place. A palace is located near the outskirts of the place and this is also an interesting place to visit. An ancient city called Chandrawati is located near the town and this is a main attraction in the place. The ruins of the city are extensive and are worth a trip. This city is said to have been demolished during the time of the emperor Aurangazeb. There are many temples that are located in the town and the most famous one is the Sitaleshwar Mahadeva temple. Some of the other interesting places to see in and around the place are Gagron Fort, Chandrabagha Temple, Jhalarapatan, Rein Basera, Jhalawar Fort, Government Museum and a few other sites. Jhar Shiva Temple is located around 30 km from the place and this is a popular place for pilgrimage among the locals.

The district is also the breeding grounds of the saras crane. The Jhalawar district has a number of attractions like Jhalawar Fort (Garh Palace), Gagron Fort, Fort of Gangdhar, Manohar Thana Fort, Government Museum and Bhawani Natya Shala.

By Air : The nearest airport is situated at Kota and this is around 80 km from the city. The airport is reasonably well connected to many places in the country and is a commercial airport. Taxis are available from the airport and this is the best option for those who are planning to arrive by air. Taxis cost around Rs 1000 from the airport to the city.
By Train : The nearest railway station is located at Ramganj Mandi which is around 25 km from the city. This is the closest option for those who prefer to travel by rail. The station has good connectivity with the rest of the state and many trains pass through the station. The station is located along the Mumbai to Delhi route. It is advisable to book taxis through the hotels as the local transportation might not be reliable. They cost around Rs 600 for this trip. By Bus : The city is connected to places such as Kota, Bundi and Jaipur by buses and these are the cheapest options available. Buses from Jaipur cost around Rs 150. Government buses maybe crowded and may not be all that comfortable.
