Janjgir is a historic town that is located in the state of Chhattisgarh in the district of Janjgir –Champa. It is an old town and there are records dating back to the 11th century about the place. The culture of the town is a curious mix of tribal and modern culture. One can witness many unique dances and festivals in the town of Janjgir. There are a few historical temples and monuments that are worth visiting in the town. The main attractions of the town are the temples and some of them are the Vishnu Temple and the Pithampur Shiv Mandir. The Vishnu Temple was built during the 12th century and still stands relatively intact and this is a testament to the architectural skill of the builders of that period. The Kaleshwamnath Temple is located along the banks of the Hasdeo River and one can see a ten day festival being celebrated in the place. This is a good time to visit as the area is colorful and one can witness the local culture. Chandrahasini Devi Temple is also another interesting place that one can visit. Many devotees can be seen in this place. Dewarghata is a popular picnic spot in the region as well.

The District Janjgir-Champa was established on 25 May 1998. The district Janjgir-Champa is situated in the center of Chhattisgarh and so it is considered as Heart of Chhattisgarh. The District Head Quarter Janjgir of the district Janjgir-Champa is the city of Maharaja Jajawalya Dev of Kulchury dynasty. The Janjgir-Champa district is a major producer of Food Grains in the state Chhattisgarh. The Vishnu Mandir were built by kings of Hayhay Vansh, near Bhima Talab of purani basti of Janjgir in 12 Century. It was being constructed in two parts to make a full temple, but both the parts were not assembled in time and as a result of it, both the parts of the temple are laying on the ground separately and still the temple is uncompleted. Due to this, the temple is also called as Nakata Mandir by local people. On the walls of the temple the statue of God and Goddess, Gandharava and Kinners are making it worth watching for the tourists.

By Air : The city of Raipur has the nearest airport and this is the best option for those who are intending to arrive by air. There are three daily flights from the capital city of Delhi. It is also well connected to places such as Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bhopal and Ahmadabad. Taxis are available from the city of Raipur and also outside the railway station. Taxis charge around Rs 7 per kilometer for the trip.
By Train : The nearest railway station is located at Naila Janjgir. The place receives trains from different parts of the country and this is the best option for those who wish to travel to the town. Tickets are inexpensive and trains are among the most comfortable modes of transport. Tickets from Delhi to Naila Janjgir cost around Rs 370. Taxis are available at the station as well.
