Jamia Masjidis an ancient mosque, which was destroyed and restored several times over the centuries. It is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. The present mosque, an impressive building without an opped dome, was built in 1674. Situated at Nowhatta, in the middle of the old city, the mosque’s main attraction is the prayer hall, which contains 370 wooden pillars; each one made with a single piece of deodar trunk. The compound is constructed in the style of a Mughal Garden, with two wide paths. This spacious mosque can accommodate 30,000 people at one time during prayers. Taxis can be hired to reach the shrine. Rozabal shrine is a nearby attraction that can be visited.

Jamia Masjid symbolizes one of the best architectural specimen which survived the ravages of time ever since it was constructed in the valley of Jammu & Kashmir. While looking into the origin and construction of Jamia Masjid, the name of Maharaja Pratap Singh comes several times as it was during his Kingdom that the maintenance and repair works of the Mosque was carried out. Pratap Singh enthusiastically encouraged the re-construction of Jamia Masjid many a time and even offered financial assistance too. Jamia Masjid is known as one of the sacred mosques in India. Be it the holiness or the constructional elegance, the mosque is unparalleled in every aspect. Composed of 370 pillars of wood, Jamia Masjid symbolizes one of the best architectural specimen which survived the ravages of time ever since it was constructed in the valley of Jammu and Kashmir. The area of Jamia Masjid extends up to an area of 384 feet by 381 feet. This spacious mosque holds a capacity to accommodate more than 33,333 people offering prayer at a time. However, there is a perfectly square garden in the middle and the mosque is surrounded by wide lanes on all the four sides. At the peak, about 100,000 people offer prayers together.

Air : Srinagar’s sparkling new airport is connected with many airports of the major cities in India. Regular flights operate between Srinagar and Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and the tickets are moderately priced. International travelers get the connecting flights from Delhi International airport, which is at a distance of 876 km from Srinagar.

Srinagar domestic airport is behind a high security barrier where therecan be long queues for baggage and body screening. You’ll need to show an air ticket (or e-ticket confirmation print-out) to get through so don’t come to the airport hoping to buy a ticket on departure.
Others : Autorikshaws from Rs.25 for short hops,Rs.50 across town, around Rs.600 for a full-day tour including Mughal gardens, Old City and Hazratbal.
