The James Bailey home is an outsized detached house that resembles a castle, and that sits at ten St Nicholas Place (the intersection of St. Nicholas Place and a hundred and fiftieth Street) in Hamilton Heights, Harlem, Manhattan, ny town, New York. The house was engineered 1886 to 1888 to the styles by creator Samuel Burrage Reed for James Bailey, most illustrious for his role as business manager of the showman & Bailey Circus. As of 2010, the home is referred to as the M. Marshall painter funeral chapel. The home is situated among the boundary of the Hamilton Heights / Sugar Hill Historic District.
Among the house’s various style options ar various glass windows, designed by a first cousin of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The inside is richly wainscoted in hand-carved timber. The AIA Guide to ny town. (2010) delineate the building, engineered 1886-1888 as a “rock-faced granite, stylishly Dutch-gabled and corner-towered. Once it had been a serious mansion in hand by circus businessperson Bailey, World Health Organization joined with impresario Phineas T. {barnum|Barnum|P. T. Showman|Phineas Taylor Barnum|showman|promoter|impresario} in 1881 to create the Barnum & Bailey Circus.”
