Jageshwar is an important center for pilgrimage located in the state of Uttarakhand in the Almora District. The place is known for its many temples that are located in and around the town. There are temples that date back to the 9th century that are located here and these are being preserved by the Archeological Survey India. There are around 124 temples that are located in the town and these include many small stone temples and large temple complexes as well. Some of the main temples are the Dandeshwar Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Surya Temple, Kuber Temple, Chandi ka Temple, Mritunjaya Temple, Nanda Devi Temple and the Kuber Temple. The Dandeshwar Temple is the biggest of the lot and many devotes can be seen in here. Among the oldest standing temples is the Mritunjaya Temple. Two main festivals are celebrated in the town of Jageshwar and these are the Jageshwar Monsoon Festival which is held during the month of August and the Shivarathri Mela which is held in the spring season. Airavat Gufa is a cave that is located nearby and this is also a good place to visit while staying at the town of Jageshwar. The Patal Buvaneshwar Caves located in the region are also worth visiting. The climatic conditions in the town of Jageshwar can be classified as sub tropical. The place gets good amount of rainfall during the monsoon season and the area is wet for the most part. Summers are mild and temperatures are always comfortable. The winters are generally frosty and temperatures can plummet during the peak winter season.

Jageshwar is a Hindu pilgrimage town in Almora district, Uttarakhand, dedicated to Lord Shiva, located 36 km northeast of Almora, in Kumaun region. The temple city comprises a cluster of 124 large and small stone temples, dating 9th to 13th century AD, with many preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which include Dandeshwar Temple, Chandi-ka-Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Kuber Temple, Mritunjaya Temple, Nanda Devi or Nau Durga, Nava-grah temple, a Pyramidal shrine, and Surya Temple Alphabetical List of Monuments – Uttranchal (Uttarakhand) – Dehradun Circle Archaeological Survey of India. amongst which the oldest shrine is the ‘Mrityunjaya Temple’ and the biggest shrine is the ‘ Dandeshwar Temple’.Places around Almora – Jageshwar Almora district Official website. Once the centre of Lakulish Shaivism, Jageshwar is located at an altitude of 1870 mts, in the Jataganga river valley near a Deodar forest (Cedrus deodara) starting from Artola village on Almora–Pithoragarh highway, where two streams Nandini and Surabhi flow down the hills in the narrow valley and meet near the sacred spot. Jageshwar is believed to be the site of first of the twelve Jyotirlingas, Nageshvara Jyotirlinga.

By Air : Pantnagar, which is 150 km from Jageshwar has the nearest airport but the connectivity is not so well.

By Train : The closest railway head is located at a place called Kathgodam, which is located around 125 km from the town of Jageshwar. The station is connected to some of the important places in the country by frequent services and these include Delhi, Lucknow and Howrah. There are two trains that connect Delhi to Kathgodam. Tickets from Delhi cost around Rs 150. Trains are constantly in demand and you have to make a reservation at least two months in advance. Taxis are available from the railway station to the town and these will cost around Rs 2,300 for a Tata Indica.

By Bus : The town is well is well connected by road from places such as Almora, Pithogarh and Haldwani. Regular buses that are operated by the state government are available from these places. These are the cheapest option and ticket costs vary according to the distance. Buses are often crowded and if you are travelling by this mode, it is advisable to carry limited luggage.
