Jacksboro was initial settled within the decennium, attracted by land offers from the American state expatriation and government office. Originally referred to as Mesquiteville, the community grew up within the lea close to Keechi Creek. It had been renamed Jacksboro in 1858 once it became the county courthouse, in honor of brothers William and Saint Patrick Jack, veterans of the American state Revolution.
