Detail InformationEdit

Jasmuiža (Aizkalne) on the right bank of the River Jaša hosts the memorial museum of poet Jānis Rainis. Rainis lived in Jasmuiža from 1883 to 1889. The museum also displays Latgale pottery. The workshop and kiln of a Latgalian ceramic artist A.Paulāns are located on the left bank of the Jaša.
Jasmuiža (before 1939, the Aizkalne Parish was called Jasmuiža Parish) is related to the early creative life of Jānis Rainis: the writer spent his holidays here while a gymnasium and university student, and during the first years of his professional career. Beside the exposition about Rainis, Jasmuiža also accommodates a permanent exhibition of works by Latgale ceramic artists. Every Sunday the visitors can watch, or try their hand in, pottery making.
