Izamal may be a little town within the Mexican state of Yucatán, seventy two kilometer (about forty miles) east of city Mérida. Izamal was unceasingly occupied throughout most of Mesoamerican chronology; in 2000, the city’s calculable population was fifteen,000 people. Izamal is understood in Yucatán as “The Yellow town” (most of its buildings ar painted yellow) and “The City of Hills” (though most of the “hills” ar in all probability the remains of ancient temple pyramids).
