Detail InformationEdit

Irnharting Castle is set 2 km west of the town of Gunskirchen.
The castle was built on two islands sitting in a large, square pond. The three-winged building and tower on the first island centered around a beautiful courtyard which was open towards the castle complex on the second island (accessible via a bridge).
With its base being constructed to host a gate hall, the tower marks the center of the front part of the castle and even today is the only way to enter the castle. The pond has been preserved in the form of a wide water ditch, which can be crossed via a stonewall bridge.
Formerly a U-shaped building complex, the second part of the castle was later on roofed and received a fourth wing and today serves as a residential building. The dried out pond forms a kind of depression around the former islands and is predominantly covered with meadows and marsh land.
