Inuvik (place of man) could be a city within the territorial dominion of North American country and is that the body centre for the Inuvik Region. Inuvik was planned in 1953 as a replacement body centre for the hamlet of Aklavik on the west of the Mackenzie Delta, because the latter was at risk of flooding and had no area for enlargement. Initially called “New Aklavik”, it had been renamed to Inuvik.
