The Iglesia Catedral Castrense or the Military Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the episcopal see of Military Bishopric of Chile . It is located in the commune of Providencia in Santiago de Chile . The church is for the religious services of the Armed Forces and Carabineros , but is also open to the rest of the community as well. The current rector of the Cathedral is the Military Chaplain Claudio Verdugo Cavieres military. During the nineteenth century the chapel was founded and subsequently the Cathedral was blessed on March 17 of 1986 , and was consecrated on December 27 of 1994 (Feast of St. John the Evangelist ).
The temple is located on Avenida Lions No. 71, at the intersection with Avenue Sept. 11 . In the vicinity is the Santiago Metropolitan Hospital (former Military Hospital ) and the Costanera Center . It has a capacity for 800 people. In its office it displays a mural from 1986 titled “Healing the Demoniac” by the famed Chilean painter Pedro Lira , whose work of 1906 is declared as Historical Monument of Chile , depicting a scene of Jesus healing a possessed. The façade of the church features a plaque with the prayer of forgiveness for child victims of abortion , in commemoration of the Day of the Holy Innocents .
