Igaliku is a settlement in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Kalaallit Nunaat. Gift day Igaliku was supported in 1783 by dealer and colonial administrator Anders Olsen and his Greenlandic adult female Tuperna. As of 2010 Igaliku had fifty five inhabitants. Igaliku is found southeast of Narsarsuaq, on AN isthmus of a ground jutting off the terra firma of Kalaallit Nunaat, close to the japanese shore of higher Tunulliarfik recess. Access is less complicated from the little close harbour of Itilleq.
Igaliku is best famed for the ruins of Garðar, once the spiritual heart of 12th-century Norse Kalaallit Nunaat. Garðar was the seat of the bishop within the Norse settlements in Kalaallit Nunaat. The area was at the very heart of the Eastern Settlement and has been extensively archaeologically excavated since the 1830s. There ar many historical graves within the space, though most haven’t presently been known.
