Howrah is a city that is situated in the Howrah district of the state of West Bengal. The city is an industrial center and it known as the sister city of Kolkata. Howrah is situated on the west bank of the Hoogly River. There are a few interesting places that you can visit in the city. You can also opt for a ferry ride on the river and take a day trip to the city of Kolkata. There is an old banyan tree that situated in the Shibpur neighborhood of Howrah and this is said to have the greatest canopy in the world. The tree is a local wonder and covers a few city blocks. The Botanical Gardens that was established by the British in the year 1786 is also worth the visit. There are a few temples that are located in the city and the main one is the temple of Lord Rama. This is a good place to visit and one can see a grand fair being held during the festival season. The Santragachhi Jheel is also worth the visit and one can see many species of birds that migrate here during the winter season. The whistling duck is the main species that is found here. The climatic conditions of the city of Howrah are by and large similar to the climatic conditions of the city of Kolkata. The climate can be classified as a tropical type and there are three main seasons that can be experienced here and these are summer, monsoon and winter season. Summers are relatively hot and humid conditions can make the place stifling. Monsoon season is extensive and one can expect constant rainfall during this period. Winters are cool and pleasant; however this season is extremely short.

By Air : The closest airport is located outside the city of Kolkata and this is the most suitable option for those who are travelling by air. The international airport is well connected to many cities around the country and also to several international destinations. One can reach the place easily from cities such as New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Pune, Goa and Imphal amongst others. International flights are available from place such as Dhaka, Singapore, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Dubai, Yangon, Kuala Lumpur and Paro. Taxis are available at the airport and you can hire these to reach the city of Howrah.
By Train : The Howrah junction connects the place to several cities across the country and these include Chennai (Coromandal Exp), New Delhi (Kolkata Rjdhni), Ahmedabad (Hwh Adi Express), Cochin (Ghy Tvc Express), Guwahati (Saraighat Exp), Mumbai (Jnaneswarisupdl) and Ranchi (Shatabdi). Trains are the easiest mode of transport and second class tickets from Delhi to Howrah cost around Rs 450. Taxis are available at the station.
By Bus : Buses are available for Howrah from the various cities and towns of West Bengal and the fare is around Rs 2-5 per km.
