Hooghly is a district that is located in the state of West Bengal and it has been named after the Hooghly River. The district consists of places such as Serampur, Arambag, Chinsura Sadar and Chandranagar. The region has many places of tourist interest and scores of people travel to the place. The region has been ruled by the Portuguese and then subsequently by the British and there are several places of historical interest that are located here. Antpur is located around 62 kilometers from the city of Kolkata and this place is famous for its many 18th century temples. These were built by local rulers and this is a must see place, while travelling to the region. Radha Govinda Temple was built in terracotta and you can see numerous murals and wall paintings in the place. Bansberia is a small town that is located in the district and the place is famous for the Hanseswari and Vasudeva Temples. The Hanseswari temple was built in a unique architectural style and it has 13 pillars and they each end in a lotus. Kamarpukur and Tarakeshwar are other places that are worth visiting. Imambara is a famous place and it contains many motif inlays and carvings. The climate of the entire Hooghly district is primarily the same and you can expect seasonal variations in temperature. Summers are hot and humid and the region can be uncomfortable during this period. Monsoons are usually long the threat of rainfall is constant. Humidity also increases during the monsoon season. Winters are cool and this is the best season to travel to the place. Light winter clothing is required as the nights can be chilly.

By Air : The nearest airport is located outside the city of Kolkata. The Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Airport is an international one and excellent connectivity to many places across the country. The place receives flights from the cities of Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmadabad, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Itanagar, Agartala, and Ranchi amongst others.
By Train : The district has a few railway stations at places such as Bandel, Kamarakundu, Seoraphuli and Dankuni. The Hooghly station is well connected to the city of Howrah as well.
