Honnemardu is a small village perched on the hills that overlook the Linganamakki reservoir, which is also known as Honnemardu reservoir. The reservoir is the result of damming the Sharavathi river way back in 1965. This place is popular among water sports enthusiasts as a site for kayaking, windsurfing and other similar sports. In the middle of this huge water body there is a small island that attracts the campers. Honnemardu is an adventurer’s delight and it offers a wide range of activities for everyone from the school children to the ‘young at heart’ 60 year olds. In addition to the various adventure activities, Honnemardu is also a birdwatcher’s paradise and one can spend endless hours watching and trying to identify the large variety of birds and butterflies. There are a 60-square-mile freshwater swimming pool and enough forest for any one to scream their lungs out with trekking, natural walk, swimming and rafting. The place is supposed to have got its name from the honne tree and the village that is now submerged by the waters of the dam. The only signs of human habitation today at Honnemardu are the two tiled houses that accommodate a bunch of eco-tourism enthusiasts who call themselves ‘The Adventurers’. The nights are the most magical, as a bonfire blazes and the sweet aroma nature reaching, one can lie on his back and gaze at the stars, with calm and cool mind. For adventurous tourists, the visit to Honnemardu can never be left back in their minds. Some of the water sports activities here include boating and kayaking, but it only permitted with a guide. Swimming is not allowed. There are no longer equipment for wind rafting.

Honnemardu is located at Shimoga Dist, Karnataka about 15 km from Sagara on the way to Jog falls , 12 km from Talaguppa and 392 km from Bangalore. With reservations, visitors in groups of at least 12 can stay overnight, with facilities for food, shelter and equipment rentals nearby. About 15 Kms from Sagar town on the way to Jog falls , a adventure place by name Honnemaradu welcomes the adventure loving people. The place is situated on the back waters of Sharavathi river. The place maintained by Adventurers, Bangalore. You can enjoy Kayoking, wind water surfing and all other water sports. On payment of small amount you get accomodation,food and water sport equipments. One important point to be noted before visiting this place is not to carry any Alcohol, Gutka, Non-Veg items. All this items are banned in this place.

By Air : Bangalore International Airport is the nearest airport, which is at distance of about 380 km from Honnemardu. Taxi charges about Rs 6000 from Bangalore to Hogenakkal. Bangalore is well connected to most of the major airports in India and abroad.

By Train : Talguppa is the nearest railhead, which is only about 12 km from the heart of the city Honenmardu. Talhuppa is connected to Shimoga and Bangalore. Talguppa to Honnemardu taxi cab charges about Rs 150 and three wheeled auto rickshaw charges about Rs 75.

By Bus : Honnemardu is well connected by KSRTC buses to the neighboring cities. Also it is connected to Shimoga nad Bangalore by deluxe private bus services. Bangalore to Honnemardu costs about Rs 1100 by tourist buses.

By Other : Honnemardu mainly consists of a huge lake which has an island it its midst. This island can be easily reached by opting for coracle rides to the center of the lake in Honnemardu. A coracle ride can normally accommodate two or four members. Coracle rides in Honnemardu will cost you anywhere around Rs 100 to 150, depending on the type of coracle you go for.
