Holy Name of Jesus of Nazareth Christian church in port of entry may be a parish of the bishopric of port of entry in port of entry, California, one amongst four Catholic churches in San Francisco’s Sunset District. The church is distinctive due to its trendy design and enormous size, and may be seen up the Hill from near Ocean Beach.The parish was established in 1925 with Father Richard J. Ryan as its initial pastor. A brief structure served because the initial church in 1926. Growth of the parish forced a replacement building to be made and engineered at the corner of town Street and fortieth Avenue. Additionally being engineered was a parish college. Each facilities opened in 1941. The parish continued to grow, and therefore the college was dilated to accommodate a complete of 800 students.With continued growth of the parish, a replacement church was necessary. In 1964, this Holy Name church was engineered. To create house for this church, the residence building had to virtually be raised off of its foundation, loaded onto a truck, and affected across the road. With the new church in situ, the previous church was born-again into a gymnasium/auditorium, named Ryan Hall once the parish’s initial pastor. Today, the parish and college continues to serve the folks of the Sunset.
