Holy Cross Church may be a Roman church situated at 329 West forty second Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues within the Hell’s Half Acre neighborhood of Manhattan, ny town, close to Times Square and across the road from the Port Authority bus station.
The Holy Cross Parish was established in 1852 and a chapel erected, that the congregation quickly outgrew. In 1854, a brand new building was created and dedicated, however lightning affected this second structure in 1867, and therefore the succeeding fireplace severely broken it. The present church was created to a style by Henry Engelbert on the positioning of the broken building and completed in 1870. It’s notable because the oldest building on forty second Street. The Holy Cross college, situated behind the church at 332 West forty third Street, was in-built 1887 to a style by Lawrence J. O’Connor.
Since 1900, Holy Cross Church has worked with politicians, police and community teams to combat economic condition, crime and medicines within the neighborhood. The parish is particularly related to the favored ministry of the Reverend Francis P. Duffy.
