In the center of Vorchdorf the Hochhaus Castle, a place with heritage and history, is a central focus for the residents of and the visitors to the town.
The Castle was founded by Konrad Fischpeck around 1464. Under the reign of the Counts of Fernberg, the Castle was remodeled in impressive and splendid Renaissance style (1520-1650). The castle-like structure is achieved by the building´s ringed wall and its rotunda towers. Thus it was soon dubbed “”Castle”” by the locals and still is called castle today.
The mighty Renaissance structure at the heart of the village was the seat of the District´s law courts from 1773 until 1848.
Since 1967, the Hillinger Family has been running an Inn on the Castle´s premises. Visitors are warmly welcomed to this outstanding and truly atmospheric setting. What´s more, the Castle also houses the Local Heritage Museum, telling the story of the townspeople and their life and work.
