Detail InformationEdit
The Parish Church of Achenkirch is consecrated to St John and in its present form dates back to the years 1748/50. The onion spire dates from the year 1755.
The altarpiece of St. John the Baptist, the confessional, the 12 apostle paintings in the choir, and the statue of St. John Nepomuk in the nave.
The four statues at the high altar date from 1891 and represent St. Georg, St. Vinzenz, emperor Heinrich II. and Florian.
At the left side altar are the Rosary Queen, St. Benedict and Scholastica.
The right side altar reminds of the Sacred Heart.
The center relief boasts a beautiful baroque statue of Josef.
The roof frescoes date from 1842.
The church has been renovated, rebuilt and redecorated several times since 1750. Unfortunately the new baroque murals by J. Haun (1933/34) do not exit any longer. The present, unusual, murals date from 1870. During Advent and Christmas the high altar piece is being replaced by a beautiful Nativity dating from 1928. During Lent a Easter Garden is on display, and during the Holy Week a Holy Sepulcher (1838).
