Hinnerup, is a town in central Denmark, located in Favrskov municipality in Region Midtjylland in Jutland just north of Aarhus and is more or less a suburb today. Until January 1, 2007, Hinnerup was the site of the municipal council of the now former Hinnerup municipality. Hinnerup Stationsby (Hinnerup railway town) was formed in 1862. First in 1967 the Hinnerup Municipality was formed by joining the parishes Grundfør, Vitten, Haldum and Vitten with the Søften-Foldby Municipality. The center Hinnerup Stationsby gave the name Hinnerup to the new Municipality.
