Eydalir in Breiddalur valley has been a vicarage since early christanity in Iceland and a number of renowned vicars have served there through the ages. Among them was the hymnpoet Einar Sigurdsson (17th. Century) whose poetry is still venerated among the nation. A pillarstone has been erected in his memory at Eydalir.
