Hazlehurst may be a town in and therefore the seat of Copiah County, Mississippi, u. S., placed concerning thirty miles south of the capital Jackson on interstate fifty five. It’s a part of the Jackson Metropolitan applied math space. Hazlehurst originated because the city of Gallatin once 2 lawyers and brothers-in-law named Walters and Saunders arrived from Gallatin, Tennessee in 1819, and engineered their homes on the banks of the lake capital of South Dakota within the western a part of Copiah county. Different settlers came with them and in 1829 the state legislative assembly incorporated the city. The incorporation charter was repealed on Jan eighteen, 1862. Hazlehurst began with the building of the metropolis, Jackson and nice Northern Railroad on November three, 1865. The city was named for patron saint Hazlehurst, associate engineer for the new railroad.
