Detail InformationEdit

According to the ancient chronicles, the Haus castle was built in the 11th century.
Legend has it that the castle was initially inhabited by a band of robbers, before it was legally acquired by Ritter Hannes von Sinzendorf in 1452. In 1487 the castle was granted to Eduard Schweinpeck, whose son sold it to Georg von Landau in 1542. Haus castle remained Landau property until 1620, when Erasmus von Landau lost it as a consequence of his participation in a revolt.
Emperor Ferdinand II donated the castle to Count Leonhard Helfrich von Megau zu Grein, who passed it on to his daughter Elisabeth. Purchased in 1708, Count Gundhacker Thomas von Stahemberg Haus had the castle demolished and rebuilt in 1721-29.
The importance of Haus castle decreased significantly after the transfer of jurisdiction in 1848. Between 1896 and 1911 it served as an arts academy and was later used for charity purposes.
Having been turned into a military hospital during World War I, the castle now accommodates a sanatorium.
