Hassan, situated in the south-western part of Karnataka, is the headquarters of Hassan district. Its name is derived from Goddess Hasanamba, the main Goddess and presiding deity in the region. Hassan, which was once under the rule to Hoysala Empire, is a famous pilgrimage destination in India. The city is noted for its scenic beauty, ancient architectural splendors and sculptures, and is visited by many pilgrims and tourist alike.Belur, a main tourist destination in Hassan district houses the Chennakesava Temple Complex, one of the best specimens of Hoysala architectures. It comprises of the Chennakesava Temple and the Kappe Chennigraya Temple. Dotted with Jain monuments, Shravanabelagola in Hassan is also a well known pilgrimage centre of Jain devotees. Home to the wonderful Hoysaleswara and Kedareswara temples, Halebid is another tourist place that should not be missed while travelling to Hassan.

By Air : Hassan does not have its own airport. The nearest domestic as well as international airport is at Bangalore which is around 187 km from Hassan and is well connected to cities from all over the country as well as abroad.
By Train : Hassan has its own railway station. The railway station is directly connected from cities like Bangalore (Yesvantpur Exp), Hubli (Mys Dharwad Exp), Mumbai (Sharavati Exp) and Delhi (Swarna Jayanthi). Connecting trains are available from most of the cities.
By BUS : Buses are one of the most common means of transport to and from Hasaan. Buses can be taken from Mangalore (174 km), Bangalore (187 km) and Coimbatore (316 km) and cost around Rs 2 to 5 per km.
By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
