Harker Heights is located near Fort Hood, a us base that was selected a permanent military facility in 1950. because the base grew, the near city of Killeen conjointly grew. Water Control and Improvement District No. four was established ashore close to the Killeen town limits and therefore the military base in 1955, and enclosed the land in hand by Pinckney R. Cox and Harley Kern. Harker Heights could be a town in Bell County, Texas, us. The population was seventeen,308 at the 2000 census. This makes Harker Heights the 3rd largest city in Bell County, when Killeen and Temple. Incorporated in 1960, the town name springs from the name of 1 of the 2 original landowners and founder, Harley Kern.
