Harila  Jori, also known as Harihar Jori, is a well known attraction near Deoghar famous for the temple of Shiva. It is said during ancient times the area was full of Haritaki or (Myrobalan) trees. This temple also possesses a huge tank, popularly known as Shool Harini Tank. It is believed that this was the very place where Shiva and Vishnu met one another. Hence the place got the name Harila Jori. Legends say that both Shiva and Vishnu met here through the demon god Ravana, who was carrying a special lingam gifted to him by Lord Shiva. Since Ravana had to relinquish the weight of the lingam, Vishnu in the guise of a Brahmin accepted to help Ravana by coming forward to hold the lingam. Since then the place acquired the name Harila Jori. A stream that flows here is known as Ravana Jori.
