Hanuman Dhoka or the Hanuman gate is an area spread over five acres of land. It is considered to be a religious, social and urban destination in Kathmandu. This square is a complex with various courtyards, palaces and temples. All these were built by The Malla kings of Nepal between 12th and 18th centuries. It is exactly located in the Durbar square. Hanuman Dhoka truly displays the religious, cultural and historical side of Nepal. The Jagannath temple, the Nasal chowk, the Kal Bhairab statue, the Big bell, the Big Drum, the statue of King Pratap Malla and the Taleju Temple are some of the main attractions of Hanuman Dhoka. It also houses a stone inscription belonging to the 17th century. It is on the wall of the palace in 15 different languages. Many monkeys dwell here. This place is popular also because many Nepalese kings have been coronated here.
