Bonaventure may be a city on the Gaspé land within the Bonaventure Regional County Municipality of Quebec. It’s set on Baie des Chaleurs close to the mouth of the Bonaventure watercourse. The city is placed on Route 132 between Saint-Siméon and New Carlisle.The Quebec Acadian deposit (Musée Acadien du Québec) is found within the city.The city was named once the Italian saint Bonaventure.
The first permanent European settlement of Bonaventure was in 1760 by Acadian refugees United Nations agency had with success avoided the expulsion of Acadians that had begun in 1755. A number of these early settlers were gift at the Battle of Restigouche in July 1760, wherever a mixed force of French navy power-assisted by Acadians were defeated by the Royal Navy. Several of today’s Bonaventure residents square measure of Acadian descent.
Prior to permanent settlement, the Bonaventure harbour had usually been visited by Europeans and was the placement of temporary camps and posts for several years before.
