Gurdaspur is a city in the State of Punjab. This city is known for its old fort which has since been turned into a Brahmin monastery. This fort is famous due to the extensive siege laid down by the Mughals in the 18th century. The founder of the city is Sahib Deep Chand and it is named after his grandfather. The area surrounding the city has many rivers and lakes. Some of these lakes and swamps are famous for Snipe Shooting. The Sanatorium of Dalhousie is located nearby. The city receives a large amount of rainfall and is surrounded by scenic beauty. Akbar who was the third Mughal emperor is said to have been enthroned in a garden near Gurdaspur. The two main rivers that pass by are the Ravi and Beas. The banks are scenic and a good place for day trips. Many of the surrounding mountains and hills have small hill stations that are a short distance away and can be reached easily.

Gurdaspur is a city in the state of Punjab, situated in the North-West part of the Republic of India. It is located in the center of and is the administrative head of Gurdaspur District. It was the location of a fort (later turned into a Brahmin monastery) which was famous for the siege it sustained in 1712 from the Mughals.

By Air : Gurdaspur does not have its own airport and the nearest airport is situated at Amritsar. There are frequent buses from the Raja Sani Airport to Gurdaspur. This is situated around 70 km from the city and the best option is to hire a cab from the airport. Airport cabs are available from outside the airport.

By Train : Gurdaspur Railway Station is one of the major stations of India and is well connected with the cities of of India.

By BUS : There are buses also available from Amritsar. However they may be crowded and travelers who have luggage will not be able to travel by government buses. A/C buses are rare and are run by private operators. Government buses usually cost around Rs 50 to Rs 75 from Amritsar to Gurdaspur. There are government and private buses that operate to Gurdaspur from various cities. Gurdaspur is connected to Jaipur, Delhi and Chandigarh.

By Taxi : Gurdaspur is well connected by a road network and national Highway. The tourist can reach to Gurdaspur by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.
