HistoryEdit
Gumla district lies in ‘the land of forests’ state Jharkhand. The place is well known for its natural beauty and hill resorts. This area was under the Lohardaga province during British rule. It was around 1843 that it was brought under Bishunpur province that was later named as Ranchi. And the district of Ranchi came into existence in the year 1899. The territory that is now occupied by the current district of Gumla became a sub-division of the district of Ranchi in 1902. This district was formed on 18 May 1984 by separating the Gumla sub-division from the rest when Ranchi was under the then Bihar state. Blessed with abundant natural beauty, mineral resources and scenic locations, the city of Gumla is synonymous with dense forests, hills and rivers. Though the place has great historical importance, not much has been done to bring it under tourist purview. Gumla is one city that lies in solitude with all its historical wonders waiting to sing their paeans of glory to those who would care to listen.
