A remarkable country composed of warm, genuine and friendly people however, it is unfortunate that the infrastructure of this West African country of Guinea is inadequate. Formerly known as French Guinea, sprawled over 246,000 square kilometers area along the North Atlantic Ocean, Guinea holds almost one half of the World’s reserves of bauxite. Affectionately called the ‘Switzerland of Africa’, although big in size, Guinea is comparatively small in population. Divided into four main regions for administrative purposes, Guinea also has substantial deposits of gold, diamond and other metals.
With the Nimba Massif recognized as a UNESCO Strict Nature Reserve with portions on the Ivorian sides, Mount Nimba which stands within Guinea, at 5,740 feet above mean sea level is the highest point. Featuring a rich musical tradition like other West African countries, some of the favorite tourist attractions in Guinea include Fouta Djalon forests, Loos Islands, the Niokolo-Badiar and Upper Niger national parks. Conakry, which is also the capital city with a seaport and an airport, is the most ideal gateway for tourists wanting visit Guinea.
