Detail InformationEdit
The Ranger’s Dormitory at the South Rim of Grand Canyon park was in-built 1920-21. Originally engineered as a worker’s dormitory, it had been reborn for ranger use in 1927. The stone building was designed by Daniel Ray Hull of the park Service Branch of Plans and styles, and may be a precursor of the later park Service Rustic vogue.
The dormitory is one amongst the earliest park Service-built structures at the South Rim. Measure concerning fifty five feet (17 m) by twenty five feet (7.6 m), the single-story structure’s exterior walls square measure of junk arenaceous rock with an extended gabled roof. The gable endds square measure podlike in wood. The bottom falls faraway from front to back, in order that the rear door incorporates a stone way. The inside options Associate in Nursing foyer and an outsized communal area with a stone hearth at the western finish, with a central hall running down the middle to the rear door with individual rooms on either aspect.
The dormitory was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September five, 1975. It’s enclosed within the Grand Canyon Village National Historic Landmark District.
