The Grand Army of the Republic burial ground could be a burial ground for yankee warfare veterans within the U.S. Town of Portland, Oregon. It’s settled at S.W. Palatine Hill Road and S.W. Boones Ferry Road, next to stream read burial ground. Fourteen Union warfare veterans, members of the Grand Army of the Republic, shaped the Grand Army burial ground Association and purchased the burial ground in 1882. The Daughters of Union Veterans of the warfare took over the management and administration of the burial ground at that point.
Ownership of the burial ground eventually passed to the State of Beaver State in 1961 then to Multnomah County, Beaver State in 1971. In 1996 possession was granted to subway Regional Parks and Greenspaces. The oldest marker is dated Oct fifteen, 1889. Salmon Brown, son of abolitionist (of the song “John Brown’s Body”) is buried here, as is Hartwell B. Compson, UN agency received the honour of Honor for bravery within the warfare.
