Gowdy Field could be a former garden, tract, landfill, and currently business park situated in Columbus, Ohio.The land was originally annexed in 1921. The positioning is settled on the side of Olentangy stream Road close to the Goodale interchange, simply west of State Route 315, south of third Avenue and east of the CSX railroad tracks. In its time, the sphere has served as a community garden, baseball fields and town lowland. Within the early 1900’s, it served as a model community garden that provided food to around 250 poor families before and when the good Depression. From the mid-1940s to the mid-1960s, the positioning was called Goodale Field and featured quite twenty baseball diamonds. On Dec. 15, 1952, Columbus council renamed it Gowdy Field when the city’s most famed ballplayer and war veteran, buccaneer “Hank” Gowdy. The Columbus born player was the sole league ballplayer to serve in each war I and II and was additionally the primary player to enlist in war I. In 1914, Gowdy crystal rectifier the “miracle” Bean Town Braves from last place to brush the globe Series against the serious favorite, the metropolis Athletics.
