India /Uttar Pradesh /Mathura / Govardhan
Govardhana exemplifies two renditions. Literally the term stands for something that increases the senses. Thus what one can attain from visiting this holy abode of young Krishna is the enlightenment of one’s wits. Govardhan has surpassed all the dhams of Hindu religion with its enormous legendary tales and traditions. Closely linked with the past time stories of the blue god, this sacred place on the hilly terrain of Giriraj peak is a much coveted place which gains equal accolades from all the fractions of the Hindu religion. This legendary peak adorns a significant place in all most all the Vedic scriptures and it is presumed that this peak is descended from heaven to assist the lord in his divine activities. Traditions say that once the lord had saved the life of the people of Vraj from the torrential rain by lifting the peak of Govardhana in his left hand for seven consecutive days. Vedas render a two fold manifestation to this great peak, where in the peak is narrated as the greatest devotee of the lord and in some places this peak step in to the shoes of the lord and is indistinguishable from the lord himself. One of the venerated places of Vaishnavite tradition, Govardhana acquires tremendous impact in the spiritual life of a devotee and it is believed that Govardhana Parikrama would fetch the devotee with much more boon that they would acquire from anywhere else. Aptly described as the crown jewel of Vraj, Govardhana stands synonymous with the lord himself. As the center stage of his transcendental past times this peak now adorns the status of a deity.
