Home to over 500,000 people, Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden located along the western coastline. Located at the mouth of Gota Alv River which runs through the city, Gothenburg was originally founded by King Gustavus Adolphus in 1621. Reputed as the largest seaport within the Nordic countries, Gothenburg was once at the centre of the Swedish ship-building industry. Changing from ship-building to high technology and education, Gothenburg is now a very friendly place with almost 60,000 students attending the Gothenburg University.
A gateway to the Western Archipelago, Gothenburg is also widely recognized as a contemporary cultural and international sports venue. Presenting an extremely nice network of bicycle paths which reach to all parts of the city, Gothenburg can also be explored on foot, taxi, buses, trams and ferry services which run across the river.
