Gopalpur-On-Sea is a 7-km-long stretch of beautiful beach and lies along the Bay of Bengal. What Gopalpur-On-Sea offers is a peaceful holiday, away from the hustle and bustle city life. It’s one of the most pristine and unpolluted beaches in India. This languorous beach with its coconut groves, casuarina, coppices and gentle sand dunes is deserted for miles. The beach derives its name from the Hindu god ‘Gopal’, one of the many names of Lord Krishna. Gopalpur also has an ancient, commercial port, now lying in ruins. There is an interesting history behind the Gopalpur On Sea. It was originally known as Paloura. It was the small fishing village on the coast of Orissa. Gopalpur beach has got its present name on the name of the 18th century temple of Lord Krishna or Gopala. It had earlier remained the important trading center. The British East India Company had constructed huge ware houses and godowns over their. According to the historical evidences it was once the wealthy town of the Kalinga Dynasty.

By Air : The nearest airport is at Bhubaneswar, 180 km from Gopalpur-on-sea. Bhubaneshwar is a two and half hour flight from Mumbai and Delhi and one-hour flight from Kolkata.

By Train : Gopalpur does not have railway station. The nearest railway station is Brahmapur (BAM)16 km away, from where is a nearby train station connected to Kolkata and Channai.

By BUS : Gopalpur is well connected by an excellent all-weather road which branches off from the NH 5 on the outskirts of Berhampur (16 km). Regular bus services are available.

By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are also available. Gopalpur, it is best to rent taxis/ car.

By Other : Auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are available to move around.
