The Gelmírez Palace was built between the 12th and 13th centuries, following the revolts that left the old Episcopal Palace in ruins. It is considered one of the most brilliant examples of the civil Romanesque in Spain. Its austere façade is in stark contrast with the Cathedral’s exuberantly designed cloister. The Palace rooms are lavish. The most notable features inside the building are the ribbed vaults, supported by corbels, that cover the vast refectory.
