Gateway House is a building in Manchester, England located adjacent to Manchester Piccadilly Station. The building was designed by architect Richard Seifert and constructed in the 1960s. The building is notable for its curved, meandering structure which mirrors the shape of the station approach road leading up to Piccadilly.
The building opened in 1969. The building was primarily office space above the retail space located at ground level on the approach to Piccadilly Station.In 2008, the building was bought by Realty Estates who planned to renovate it. Manchester-based architecture practice, Hodder + Partners won a design competition to renovate it in 2010 and a planning application was submitted in October 2011. The refurbishment will cost £35m and the building will be converted to mixed use and include a hotel and restaurant. A 38,000 sq ft extension is planned on Ducie Street if plans are approved.
