Gárdony, the capital of Lake Velencei, is a holiday resort located on the south side of the lake, 45 kilometers from Budapest and 20 kilometers from Székesfehérvár. It offers active recreation, entertainment facilities, different classes of accommodation and restaurants for the whole year. Writer Géza Gárdonyi (1863-1922) was born in Agárdpuszta. His birthplace is now a memorial museum and galery, where the life of the author of ’Eclipse of the Crescent Moon’ is told with the aid of period furniture, manuscripts and photographs The enthusiasts of hiking may discover the unique natural resources and the granite formations of Velencei Hills, walking around tour routes. Besides the above the south shore of the lake offers a wide range of wine specialities in nice Wine cellars. In winter skating areas are marked for skaters, skate sailors and skeleton riders.
